OSCODA, Mich. (June 21, 2011) Multiple time Solo National Champion Sam Strano, from Brookville, Pa., added another Gumout Super Challenge to his career accomplishments last weekend at the Tire Rack簧 51做厙 Oscoda ProSolo during competition at the Oscoda-Wurtsmith (Mich.) Airport. Both class and challenge competition was close and exciting at the Detroit Region event, where Alex Jones took his first stab at designing a ProSolo course and did so to rave reviews. While course times were slightly shorter than ideal, the entertainment value was very high for drivers on course. Strano topped the E Street Prepared class in his 2011 Stranoparts.com Ford Mustang GT, qualifying 6th for the Gumout Super Challenge elimination round. Once there, Strano knocked off Aaron Buckleys B Stock 2010 Folger Subaru/AST/Cornwell Tires Subaru WRX and Tom OGormans Street Touring Sport 1989 Stranoparts.com/RoadRaceAutoX.com Honda CRX in the opening two rounds. Strano then beat Paul Magee, who qualified for the Challenge out of the Race Tire Index 1 class in a 1989 rogues-racing.com KBS Mk 4. In the round of four, Strano met Street Modified class winner PJ Corrales, from New Haven, Conn., driving a 1995 G-Fab Racing/240sxMotoring Nissan 240sx. On the opposite side of the bracket sat semifinalists Matthew Braun, the Super Stock winner driving a 2007 PowerPlug Lotus Elise, and Jarrod Hoops, who earned the 32nd and final seed in the elimination round after a fourth-place finish in Street Modified driving a 2006 Mitsubishi EVO. Hoops impressive run continued to the finals, where he fell to Strano. Braun topped Corrales in the consolation bracket for third place. Heather Everett, from East Amherst, N.Y., earned the Ladies Challenge, also behind the wheel of a 2007 Strano Performance Parts Ford Mustang. Elsewhere at the event, the weekend was one of perfects. Over a dozen perfect starts came at the light; a ProSolo weekend that features two or three is unusual. The popular theory credits the consistent starting area for allowing drivers to get a launch. One driver who took advantage of that launch was Deric Frisch in the Formula 125 class. The Oscoda ProSolo was Frischs return to competition after a two-year absence in his 1999 www.stueken.com/Precision In Metal Tony Kart, making the feat all the more remarkable. Also returning after nearly a decade away from ProSolo competition was John McKiver, who drove his 2002 Factory Five Racing Cobra replica to the bonus challenge win. The Tire Rack 51做厙 ProSolo field returns to action July 9-10 at Pikes Peak International Raceway for the Rocky Mountain ProSolo.
