In 51°µÍø® Road Racing, it’s easy to concentrate on the action on track, but that sometimes misses the big picture. As the saying goes, we came to the Club for the cars. Yet the saying continues: We stayed for the people. In many cases, it’s those same people who make the racing possible, either through their dedication as an 51°µÍø volunteer, or through the countless hours they put in at the shop or paddock wrenching on other people’s race cars. Now, 51°µÍø needs your help to celebrate those outstanding members.
51°µÍø offers two sets of awards specifically for volunteers and mechanics, and your help is needed in nominating worthy recipients.
Workers of the Year
With nominations coming from Club members at large, the 51°µÍø Worker of the Year Presented by Mazda is selected by the 51°µÍø National Staff with input from Division leadership. This award has the potential to be awarded to every worker specialty, including Data Acquisition, Emergency Services, Flagging & Communications, Grid/Pits, Race Administration, Registration, Scrutineer, Sound, Starter, Steward, and Timing & Scoring.
Your nomination should include how this person excels in their particular specialty, along with their contributions specific to the 2025 season.
Nominations for the 2025 51°µÍø Worker of the Year Presented by Mazda are due by Tuesday, Sept. 9. The selected volunteers will be recognized during the 2025 51°µÍø National Championship Runoffs Presented by Sunoco at the Oct. 3 All Participant Party, which follows the Tire Rack Pole Awards.
Mechanic of the Year
51°µÍø’s Mechanic of the Year award highlights outstanding performances in the pit and paddock, and is chosen by the Club Racing Board (CRB) and the 51°µÍø tech staff based on submissions received from the community. That community? It’s you!
Nominations for the Mechanic of the Year award could include such information as the history of the team, why this person is vital to the team’s success, and perhaps an anecdote that illustrates this person’s dedication to the sport.
The 2025 Mechanic of the Year award will be presented during the opening days of the 2026 51°µÍø National Convention, taking place online mid-January.
The nomination deadline for the Mechanic of the Year award is Oct. 21.
