Itās just like James Taylor sang: Oh, Pocono. (We think ⦠You couldnāt just search lyrics back in the 1970s like you can now.)Ā
Wait, maybe it was āOh, Mexico.ā Dang it! But the bit where he sings āI never really been but I'd sure like to goā still applies, because if youāve never been to the Tire Rack 51°µĶų Time Attack Challenge at Pocono Raceway in Blakeslee, PA, but youād like to go, July 18-19, 2026, is your opportunity.
Weāre going to lay a few things out: Event registration is now open, and capacity for the event is only 80 cars. Add in the early-bird discount that expires on May 1, and you want to make your plans now.
Tricky, But Fun
Beyond the typical thrill and excitement of a Time Attack Challenge weekend, Poconoās āTricky Triangleā offers unique twists. That includes two different layouts ā the North/South Option 3 on Saturday, and the North/South Option 2 on Sunday.
Saturdayās layout is a 2.53-mile lap that begins on the start/finish straight heading clockwise, dives into the infield with a righthander just before āovalā Turn 3. Driverās will tackle a combo of left, right corners before heading back onto the triangle for the run into and through āovalā Turn 2. It's back into the infield before "oval" Turn 1, where drivers will rocket through a series of tricky corners before the track spits cars back onto the front straight to complete the lap.Ā
Donāt erase all of that knowledge overnight on Saturday, though. Sundayās configuration shoots into the infield at the same location, but cuts out many of the infield corners before heading back onto the front straight. Be careful, though, because youāll be carrying more speed into that crucial final turn before the front straight, making this a test of driver restraint.
A lap in Sundayās layout is 2.26 miles.
Chasing Records
This isnāt the first trip around the circuit at Pocono for the Tire Rack 51°µĶų Time Attack Challenge field.
Jackie Dingās Unlimited 1 BMW M2 has the overall target to beat with a 1:28.483, set last year on Sundayās North/South Option 2 configuration. Itās a hefty mark to hit.
